ஏன் பள்ளி கொண்டீரையா ஸ்ரீ ரங்கநாதனே?

ஸ்ரீ மத் ராமாய ணத்தை ஆதிகவி வால்மீகி வடமொழியில் எழுதினார்.  கம்பர் கவிநயம் சொட்ட தமிழில் இயற்றி அதை ஸ்ரீரங்கப் பெருமாள் முன்பாகவே அரங்கேற்றினார். துளசி தாசர் இந்தி மொழியில் ராமாயணத்தை எழுதினார். குலசேகர ஆழ்வார் போன்றவர்களும் பக்திச் சுவை ததும்ப ராமனைப் பாடி இன்புற்றார்கள்.

ஒவ்வொருவர் பக்தி ஒவ்வொரு விதம். இசையால் இறைவனை அடைந்துவிடலாம். இசை மூலம் பரந்தாமனைப் பணிந்தவர்கள் பலர். சுவையான தமிழில் ராமபிரானைப் பாடி அவர் அருளைப் பெற்றவர்களுள் அருணாசலக் கவிராயரும் ஒருவர்.

ஞானசம்பந்தருக்கு அம்பிகை ஞானப் பால் அருளிய சீர்காழியில் பிறந்தவர் அருணாசலக் கவிராயர். சிறு வயதிலேயே பெற்றோரை இழந்து விட்டதால் சகோதர னின் ஆதரவில் வளர்ந்தார். ஏழ்மையான குடும்பம். அருணாசலத்திற்கு இசையில் ஆர்வம் அதிகமாக இருந்தது; நல்ல குரல் வளமும் இருந்தது. தமையனின் வார்த்தைக் குப் பணிந்து, அந்த ஊரிலிருந்த அம்பல வாணக் கவிராயரிடம் சைவத் திருமுறைகளையும், வடமொழியையும், தமிழ் சாத்திரங்களையும் கற்று வந்தார். இசையில் ஆர்வம் அதிகம் இருந்ததால் எல்லாவற்றையும் பாடலாக மாற்றிப் பாடுவதில் மிகவும் விருப்பம் கொண்டிருந்தார்.

நீராடுவதற்கு நதிக்குச் சென்றால், தனிமையில் இருந்து தன் இனிமையான குரலில் பாடி மகிழ்வார். நேரம் போவது தெரியாமல் பாடிக் கொண்டிருப்பார்.

அருணாசலத்தின் இறை பக்தியையும் இனிய குரலையும் கண்ட தருமபுரம் ஆதீனம், அவரை துறவு கொள்ளச் செய்து இறைப்பணியில் ஈடுபடுத்த விழைந்தார். ஆனால் அருணாசலத்தின் தமையன் அதற்கு சம்மதிக்கவில்லை.

அருணாசலம் கம்ப ராமாயணத்தை மிகுந்த ஆர்வமாகப் படித்தார். எப்போ தும் ராம சிந்தனையுடனேயே இருந்தார். ராமனை இசையால் பாடி இன்புற வேண்டும் என்று மனம் துடித்தது.

ஒருநாள் இரவு அருணாசலம் கனவில் ஒரு தெய்வீகக் காட்சியைக் கண்டார். கோதண்டத்தை ஏந்திய ராமபிரானும் லட்சுமணனும் தரிசனம் தந்து, "ராமா யணத்தை கர்நாடக இசையில்  பாடு' என்று சொல்லி அருள்பாலித்தார்கள்.

அருணாசலத்திற்கு மேனி சிலிர்த்தது. கண்களில் நீர் வழிந்தது. அடுத்த வினா டியே அவருடைய மனதில் இசை பிர வாகமாகப் பொங்கிற்று. "யாரோ இவர் யாரோ என்ன பேரோ அறியேன்' என்ற பாடல் இசை வடிவில் வந்தது. ஸ்ரீராமன் மிதிலா நகருக்குள் வரும்போது, கன்னி மாடத்திலிருந்த சீதாதேவி தன் தோழி களிடம் கேட்பதாக அமைந்தது இந்தப் பாடல். தன் மனதிற்குள் சுந்தர ரூபமான ஸ்ரீராமனை அனுபவித்துப் பாடிய பாடல்.

இயல், இசை, நாடக நூல்களை 12 ஆண்டுகள் முழுமூச்சாகக் கற்றார்அருணாசலம். அவர் வாலிப வயதைஅடைந்தவுடன், அவருடைய தமையன் தனக்குத் தெரிந்த சீலமுள்ள குடும்பத்துப் பெண்ணை திருமணம் செய்து வைத்தார். அருணாசலத்திற்கு கடை ஒன்றை வைத்துக் கொடுத்தார் பெண்ணின் தந்தை. பகல் வேளைகளில் வியாபாரத்தை கவனிப்பார். இரவில் புராண பிரவசனம் செய்வார். அருணாசலத்தின் பிரவசனத் தைக் கேட்க மக்கள் திரளாகக் கூடினார் கள். இனிமையான குரலில் அவர் ராமா யணத்தை இசையுடன் பாடிச் சொல்லும் போது, மக்கள் மெய்ம்மறந்து கேட்பார்கள்.

அருணாசலம் குறிப்பு எதுவும் எடுப்பதில்லை. ஸ்ரீராமரை தியானித்து மேடையில் வந்து அமர்ந்தவுடன், அவரிடமிருந்து அருவியாகப் பாடல்கள் அமுதம் போன்று கொட்டும். அருணா சலத்தின் முகத்தில் ஒரு தெய்வீக ஒளி பிரகாசிக்கும். நெற்றியில் திருநீறு, தூய வெள்ளை ஆடை, கழுத்தில் துளசிமாலை. ஸ்ரீதியாகராஜ சுவாமிகள் ராமனை எப்படி அனுபவித்தாரோ அப்படியே அருணாசலமும் அனுபவித்தார்.

நாளுக்கு நாள் அருணாசலத்தின் புகழ் கூடியது. சீர்காழிக்கு அருகிலுள்ள சட்டநாதபுரத்திலிருந்து கோதண்ட ராமன், வேங்கடராமன் என்ற இளைஞர் கள் தவறாமல் அருணாசலத்தின் பிரவசனத் தைக் கேட்க வருவார்கள். அருணாசலத் தின் இசையிலும், புராணம் சொல்லும் அழகிலும் தங்கள் மனதைப் பறிகொடுத் தார்கள். அவர்கள் அருணாசலத்தை நமஸ்கரித்து, "ஐயா, உங்கள் இசையில் நாங்கள் கட்டுண்டோம். நீங்கள் எங்களுக்கு ராமாயணப் பாடல்களைக் கற்றுத் தரவேண்டும். உங்கள் பாடல்களின் நகல் வேண்டும்' என்று பணிவோடு வேண்டினார்கள். அருணாசலம் மகிழ்ந்து அவர்களுக்கு இசையுடன் ராமாயணப் பாடல்களைக் கற்றுக் கொடுத்தார். ராம கதையை தானும் அனுபவித்து அவர் களையும்  அனுபவிக்கும்படி செய்தார்.


பிறந்தது முதல் சீர்காழியை விட்டு எங்குமே செல்லாதபோதிலும், அயோத்தி யையும், சரயு நதியையும், தண்டகாரண் யத்தையும், கோதாவரி நதியையும் அப்ப டியே கண்முன்னே கொண்டு நிறுத்தி விடுவார். ஒருநாள் ராமாயண பிரவசனம் சொல்லும்போது, ராமர் காட்டுக்குப் போகும் கட்டத்தில் கைகேயி கோபித்துக் கொண்டு மந்தரையிடம் பாடிய, "ராமனுக்கே மன்னன் முடிசூட்டினால்' என்ற பாடலைத் திரும்பத் திரும்ப பாடி மெய்சிலிர்த்துப் போனாராம். லட்சு மணன் பொங்கி எழும்போது, "நானே ராமனுக்கு முடி சூட்டுவேன்' என்று ஆவேசமாகப் பாடியபோது, சபையில் உள்ள அனைவரும் வெலவெலத்துப் போனார்களாம். லட்சுமணனின் சீற்றமும் வில்லின் நாண் ஒலியும் அவரது பாடலில் வெளிப்பட்டதாம்.

ஸ்ரீ ராமபிரானைப் பற்றி ராமநாடக கீர்த்தனைகளை நாற்பது ராகங்களில் பாடினார். தவிர தனிப்பாடல்களும் பாடினார். அத்தனை பாடல்களும் மனதை உருக்கும்படியாக அமைந்தன.

"சரணம், சரணம் ரகுராமா, நீ என்னை தற்காத்து அருள் பரந்தாமா' போன்ற பாடல்களை பக்தி ததும்ப பாடியுள்ளார். ராமாயணம் முழுவதையும் பாடலாகப் பாடினார். இவர் இயற்றிய, "ஸ்ரீராமச் சந்திரனுக்கு ஜெயமங்களம், திவ்யமுக சந்திரனுக்கு சுபமங்களம்' என்ற பாடல் எல்லாரையும் மிகவும் கவர்ந்தது. பல வித்வான்கள் கச்சேரிகளில் இவரது பாடல்களைப் பாடினார்கள்.

எப்போதுமே கவிஞர்களுக்கு சோதனை உண்டு. கம்ப ராமாயணத்தை கம்பர் அரங்கேற்றும்போது எதிர்ப்பு ஏற்பட்டதுபோல, அருணாசலக் கவி யின் பாடல்களை அரங்கேற்றும்போது எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்தனர். பெருமாள் உத்தரவு கொடுத்தால்தான் அரங்கேற்றம் நடக்கும் என்று கண்டிப்பாகச் சொன் னார்கள்.

அருணாசலக் கவிராயர் ராமனிடமே தஞ்சம் ஆனார். ஸ்ரீராமனை நினைத்து உருகி, "ஏன் பள்ளி கொண்டீரய்யா ஸ்ரீரங்கநாதனே' என்று மோகன ராகத்தில் மனம் கசிந்து பாடி உருகினார். அந்தப் பாடலில், "விச்வாமித்திரர் பின் நடந்த வருத்தமோ' என ஆரம்பித்து, ராவணவதம் முடிய ராமாயணத்தில் உள்ள அத்தனை சம்பவங்களையும் பாடி முடித்தார். இறைவன் அருணாசலத்தின் பக்தியோடு கூடிய இசையைக் கேட்டு அருள்புரிந்தார். வைணவ ஆச்சார்யர் களின் கனவில் திருமாலே வந்து அரங்கேற்ற நாளைச் சொல்லி மறைந் தார். கம்பர் ராமாயணத்தை அரங்கேற்றிய அதே பங்குனித் திருநாளில் அருணாசலக் கவிராயரின் ராம நாடக கீர்த்தனைகளும் மிகச் சிறப்பாக அரங்கேறியது.

புதுவையில் துபாஷாக இருந்த அனந்தரங்கம் பிள்ளை, கவிராயரை வரவேற்று சிறப்புக்கள் செய்தார். மணலி முத்துக் கிருஷ்ண பிள்ளை என்பவர் கவிராயரின் பாடல்களைப் பிரபலம் செய்தார். "நாடெல்லாம் ஒலிக்க வேண்டிய நாத காவியம்' என்று பாராட்டினார்.

அருணாசலக் கவிராயரின் பாடல்கள் இன்றும் சங்கீத வித்வான்களால் பாடப்படுகிறது. நாமும் கவிராயரது பாடல்களைப் பாடி, ஸ்ரீ ராமனின் அருளைப் பெறுவோம்.

S.AYYADURAI- ICE THAT NEVER MELTS

Ayyadurai passed away on 21st May 2013.


I had been working with him in Parry Agro for around 3 years and he was in Estate, being Tea Industry, and I was in Corporate office interacting over phone and meeting eye to eye during quarterly/Half Yearly/Yearly audits and any other special occasions.

His retirement is due this year end and he passed away due to cardiac arrest at the age of 58

Before I start my obituary, my heartfelt condolences to his wife Smt.Viji and his daughter Deepa and SIL Dinesh. It is equally sad for the departed soul not enjoying his retirement life with his wife and see his grand children. May God give them enough heart to come out of this sadness.

In my professional carreer spanning around 20 years, I have come across many people and Ayyadurai is one of very few with a difference and that really made me to write this obituary.  I normally don't spend spend time on obituaries.  This is my second one, the first being Padma, who passed away in her tender age of 18 because of cancer in Mumbai.

When I joined Parry Agro, Guru, the then CFO told me that I would be meeting ICE to know more about this business. He also added  "His name is Ayyadurai and we all call him  ICE". It was bit amusing for me to hear that name ICE and was yearning to meet him.

More than his thorough professionalism, I have seen his human side many times which I think, would be apt to mention here.

Once, we were going to Estate at Martycherra, in the TN/Kerala Border and , he patiently introduced me to all the staff and taught me the process of tea and he accompanied me everywhere in the Estate so that I could get the feel of the business. For his caliber, he could have entrusted this job to someone else. On our return, he provided me Bisleri water warning me that I could get stomach upset.  He asked me the menu at his residence.

In Ayapadi Estate, knowing that I apply vibhuti and the previous night I told him that I forgot. He brought this from somewhere and provided me that morning.

Our trip to Hongkong was unforgettable. The award, we both got jointly, for completing the audit in time from Mr.M.A.Alagappan, the Chairman of the Group, was one of the memorable events in my parry agro life. It was a marathon effort to complete the audit in 7 days and we had an excellent team in HO and Estate and got the work done. He complemented me in this mission but I know the giant role he played and how modest he was

Though, he was cantankerous many times with the staff, I always introspected and found that such a person who ruled the Estate as a king and for a King, to be ruthless is part of his profession. His Estate atmosphere made him as an icon and the relationship between Estate and Ayyadurai was “stick” rule, unfortunately, no carrot.

I also thought, sometimes, psychologically, a person who is alone in Estate and moved with labourers, it is very obvious that he shows the same attitude to others. It also stems from the fact that the confidence he had in the business, Tea Industry, made him full of showing his authority and whatever he did and obviously his behavior had embedded with the authority.

Whenever he visited Chennai for Audit, his acumen on the numbers always amazed me and his expertise in spread sheets and he would take head on with any person on the performance metrics of the Company.

Another incident was on his daughter’s marriage. He introduced me to his relatives and praised me for coming in traditional dhoti and asked me to sit near Nadaswaram vidwans and listen to the music. He called me in my house and thanked me for coming for the marriage after two days.

I just called him a month back about his health and he thanked me for that too.

For me, honestly, I had a tough time working under Guru and ICE. It was a nightmare and many times unbearable. He also asked me many times how I was within my nerves handling him and Guru. He felt sorry many times for breaching the laksman rekha of his attitude.

My tenure with ICE and colleagues Balaji, Rajaopal RD and Praveen was very nice and pleasurable.

Will be missing his authority and his love for home made food. Invariably, April 14 and January (Pongal), he would be here for quarter closing and we shared home made food and enjoyed. Almost all Sundays, day and night working in Parry agro which did not happen anywhere in my life. It was another challenging working pleasure for me.

The late night discussion, we had in his room in MCC Club and Hongkong trip, where he made my wife, who never talks to any one, comfortable and allowed his wife to spend more time with my wife and made the later comfortable. When my wife finished the prayer in Hongkong meet, he complemented her for the prayer which no one did. My wife, of course, remembered this and quoted when I informed the passing away of ICE.

ICE is a difficult person to comprehend. For me, he lived like a King. One should always keep a distance to a Raja and observe and do what Raja says. For me, he is a like a jack fruit. Though, we had a love-hate relationship. Many times, honestly, I liked him silently. 

Thanks ICE. Had you been there till your retirement, I would have come for your farewell. God is unkind sometimes.
