After
listening to this concert I wondered whether it was thematic concert titled “sarvam
vishnumayam jagat” directed to “Chettinaad vidyaashram” as he rendered all
songs except one on “Vishnus and his avataarams”. Even that single kriti in
ghanta raagam “kamalaambaa”, there is a word with meaning that “ten avataarams
of Vishnu came out of Ambaal’s finger nails”.
So it is a concert full of vishnuparam.
I always tried
to attend Vijay Siva and Ramakrishnan murthy concerts. For me, they are singing
for their souls and in this process take
us as part of their wonderful music journey…..
After a
long time, I attended a live concert in BVB,
though it started a fortnight back.
BVB is always a “darling sabha” for
mylaporeans like me because it is free and concerts starting early before the mega music event. Worst case, In between buying vegetables and going to
kapAli temple, you can enter this sabha and listen to couple of songs at least
!!!
Slowly, live programmes are coming up and
people are scattered in the sabha as a precaution. Instead of Third wave, music wave is slowly
engulfing us. Good sign.
I somehow
do not vote for youtube live. Only sitting in the sabha and looking at the
reaction of rasikas is a real fun.
Coming to
VS concert:
VS
concert always has some “fixed agenda”
Singing
in BVB, that to near Kapaali koil, he will sing one Kapaali song or
Karpagambaal or at least “eppO varuvArO” as tukkada.
He always
takes a majestic main raagam (Top 5 ragaas) and gives an exceptional
rendering.
Unfortunately,
to my surprise, none was there.
Ghanta (meaning bell) is one Ragam which none explored better the MD. He has another kriti on Mangalaamba (kumbakonam) on this raagam. MD always has the knack of bringing the raga name in his kriti. In this kriti, he says “she has big doors with big bells, which advertises the fruits of mukthi”
He took
Kamaas as main- Brocheva…. Oops.
(This song, if not come in Sankarabharanam film, would not be famous at
all !!!, I still wonder non-musicians or ordinary music lovers were singing the
swaram in this song fluently)

Those who
could not see live DKJ-LGJ would have been satisfied seeing VS –LV, LV’s
so many “anAsAya pudis” in Todi and kamas are typical father’s training. Very nice.
MB is
always plays his part perfectly. Getting
few “besh” from VS showed his vidwat.
There is
no comment on VS’ music as it is always impeccable. Carnatic music is dedicated to him. He never pricks in to the eyes of violinist.
Just folding his hands, he goes to panchamam.

Two
things came out of my mind while driving back home:
As
AnantarAma Dikshitar says, in his discourse, any one who gets up in the morning
and starts reading the newspaper, finds, the paper was yesterday’s, never even
touches it again and throws it. (meaning
yesterday’s news was a stale) But we
have been listening Todi and kalyaani from Ariyakkudi days to Post-corona days,
still we don’t feel bored. That is the
beauty of Carnatic Music. Thanks to the
musicians who are born to make us happy always.
Attending
live programme first time after almost 2 years, I could not forget few of my
close friends, exceptional music lovers and critics, lost because of epidemic. Life goes on.
