kaRRadhum suttadhum-Part VI
Excerpts from Mata Amritnanandamayi’s article…
We chant the above matra thrice at the end of many
prayers. Why ?
Oh Lord,
May I receive peace from all of nature..
May I receive peace from my surroundings…
May I receive peace from myself…..
This is what the three shantis
mean..
Even if the first two circumstances are not favourable, we
need not fear. For if there is peace in our hearts, we can overcome other
problems. One can bravely face any obstacles in the world, even if
circumstances are problematic.
If we have no peace within, even the absence of threats from
nature or our surroundings will be of no use to us because we will not be able
to experience peace from them. As long
as we are egoistic, it will be difficult to gain the grace of the self. That is why it is said the the ego is the
obstacle to everything. If we want
grace, we must get out of the ego. We
must ensure that our every word and deed
arises from every thought. Eventhough
the sun radiates from everywhere, we will not be benefited if we lock ourselves
in a room and close the doors and the windows.
Likethat someone who refuses to strive for the grace of the Self, that
person will not be able to receive it.
Humility helps a lot to achieve it.
The Compassion what we show to all creatures in what comes
back to us a divine grace. Therefore, if we wish to enjoy divinde grace, we
must ensure that our every look, word and deed is compassionate.
When life is lived in such a disciplined, the individual
becaomes the master of all experiences as his sense organs are conquerred.
when some one asks Devadutt Pattanaik, “What are your core
beleifs about life”, he replied. “Liefe continues without you. You need life,
life does not need you.
